The Canadian-engineered DHC–6 Twin Otter was manufactured by De Havilland Canada between 1965 and 1988. The 300 series was the final of three series produced by De Havilland, before Viking Air acquired the manufacturing rights and resumed production of the Twin Otter with a new series 400 in 2008. This reliable and low-maintenance STOL utility aircraft accommodates 19 passengers and is powered by twin Pratt and Whitney PT6A-27 turbo-prop engines, each of which generates 680 shp. With its proven high-winged design, robust airframe and landing gear, the Twin Otter can operate from unpaved runways, snow and water – also making it suitable for operations in challenging environments. The flexible 10.87 cubic-metre cabin space can be easily adapted to a variety of roles, including cargo, regional commuter and parachute operations.
